COMMENT : Beware of coconut oil! And of those who advocate them! They make the ground slippery. Be they Fatorda grounds or the proposed Tivim grounds.
One thing is sure; they do strengthen your immune system to criticism and insults. But no benefits to cancer of corruption and diabetes of sweet talk; doubtful. No peer review studies have yet been published. And mind you; if you insist on these benefits, you’re sure to get a dozen sites quoted as response that it is not medically accepted as they are not peer reviewed. Coconut oil does not also prevent heart disease, but it helps in greasing the palm (?trees) to get you admitted in Government hospital with chest pain. In such a case you will definitely lose weight. Hey! Sorry, I forgot that all Goan politicians have beautiful skin and hair as compared to those who vote them to power, as they are dumb and believe more what U.S. has to say, that soya oil will make them live longer. Goans never had any “tropical oil scare” in the days gone by. But ever since our Goans started using exogenous slippery oils their heart disease rates and serum cholesterol have shot up. No one can predict which side their fortunes will slip. One thing I agree with this post is that we ‘must not discard the coconut which has served us so well for so long’. Yet, we still rely more on the “Bond’des” than the coconuts. Yes, “Sadly no one seems to care.” Our C.M. may be one of those to be blamed for the decline in coconut production. Coconuts are not as much in demand as compared to “Bond’des” by the present set of Goans. So definitely, prices of coconut falls. I remember half a century back we as kids used to play with “Bond’des”; do you see any kids now playing with them? On the contrary, Goans have now elevated them on a pedestal. And the only nut plucker we may find is a stray squirrel climbing up their pants! ;-) Dr. Ferdinando dos Reis Falcão.
