For Shivaji and his descendents it was Maratha empire and for the Chitpawan brahmins who followed it was Peshwe empire but never an Indian empire and so it could be said of all other people of India who have lived in various parts of it.>>>
COMMENT : The name ‘India’ did not exist prior to the British. It was just Indus Valley, the disintegrated Moghul Empire, etc. The Indian Empire was formed by the British with its political boundaries as in this official map. The Indian Empire: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:British_Indian_Empire_1909_Imperial_Gazetteer_of_India.jpg Regarding all people in present India should be Indians first, is a political agenda; and as all know, politicians lack knowledge. There are many in present political India who do not consider themselves Indians. Here we have another Non-Indian community called Nagas http://www.hindustantimes.com/NSCN-slams-Nehru-on-Naga-I-Day/Article1-733316.aspx Infact, we have plenty of Goans who swallow what politicians, historians, grandfathers, etc. have told them. That is why our crooked politicians thrive. Dr. Ferdinando dos Reis Falcão.
