He added, "This is not about poverty, it's about culture. A culture that glorifies violence, shows disrespect to authority, and says everything about rights but nothing about responsibilities". In too many cases, he said, the parents of these children, "if they are still around" - did not care where their children are or who they are with, let alone what they were doing. "The potential consequences of neglect and immorality on this scale have been clear for too long, without enough action being taken. We need more discipline in our schools.>>
COMMENT : Does this not ring a bell of where Goa is heading too? “We talk only about rights but nothing about responsibilities. We need more discipline in schools.” We had more discipline during the erstwhile regime, and parents were more responsible. But now the so called “Liberation” has liberated most parents from responsibilities and discipline; the extent of which can be gauged in the first place by the people wanting indisciplined and irresponsible people to govern them. The number of crimes involving our Goan youth. And we have politicians who speak of preserving culture. What culture are they talking about when they pull out students for political agitations? Are these responsible politicians? Dr. Ferdinando dos Reis Falcão.
