Indians in New York celebrate Independence day Indians in New York celebrate 31st Independence day , organised by the Indian Federation The spectacle for the first time was brought live by Times now . Many in India are not aware of such celebrations either through electronic or print media The spirit of India reverberates in a distant land The show was not spectacular with floats or costumes, as we see near at home. The participation by over one lakh fifty thousand ethnic community was the largest gathering drawn from the states of New York. Connecticut and New Jersey The event creates a connect with the home land and expresses solidarity with the joy of remembering Freedom It is both sentimental and emotional for oversea Indians to embrace togetherness in a distant land of adoption maintaining links with their roots and displaying pride in their land of origin This public manifestation reinforces their patriotic fervour and commitment to Nationalistic tinge It is astonishing to realise that Indians here are divided by caste, religion, region, language and fiercely guard the compartmentalization If these boundaries of identity and separation were to melt likewise in India, it would be most welcomed thought of National Integration It was aptly summarized by one participant,"Indians can be taken out of India, but India cannot be taken out of India" There was a separate gathering to lend support to the movement of Anna against corruption to show their real concerns Even though they were prohibited to merge protests with the march, many carried catchy slogans in favour of Jan Lokpal Bill. It is definitely a biggest gathering out side India celebrating much cherished freedom, that will enthuse our spirits, but ignored by the National media and press for the reasons best known to them It is an event that builds bonds of patriotism and may be it provides a sense of security in an alien land. We never hear of ethnic confrontations and clashes and there is motivation to address the problems of the community in complete unison That this tradition is kept alive and kicking with participation of Indian personalities of glamour adding to its attraction It also showcases the Indian culture and traditions proudly to the visitors eager to familiarize themselves with ways of Indian life. May be the Govt of India find a way to augment this effort and give it publicity it deserves in future The private initiative by Times Now to beam the event live in our drawing rooms deserves our gratitude and applause.Personally it was my first experience that touched a happy feeling of oneness.
