Ola ALL, Writing this little note while trying to stay out of Hurricane Irene's reach.
In certain US states, they have a very efficient system to prevent illegal parking of the sort one sees evidenced in JoeGoaUK's Flickr photographs. [1] Reasonable paid parking facilities are provided [2] No schools or major business establishments are permitted to commence operations until the businesses provide evidence of adequate parking space [3] Paid parking meters are provided on certain streets [4] If any car is parked illegally or in designated spots but beyond the paid-for time - a fine-ticket is slapped on those cars. [5] All new super mega-establishments (e.g. sports stadiums) are not allowed to be built within the precincts of the city (though positive consideration may be given in cities with very good mass transportation systems) ps: I always wondered what incentives the street 'parking attendants' would have to be efficient with their 'ticketing'. I now believe that the entire business is outsourced to private enterprise and that the attendants make a percentage of the ticket revenues. CCP ...... you might just wish to think about it. And yes, I do not believe that there is any need to do a site visit to US cities to study how this works. I read that Indians are innovators. Perhaps, they will engineer a very efficient system which will also keep Panjim or Ponnje cleaner. jc
