Dental department at Govt . Hospital Recently an elderly lady was admitted at the Govt. Hospital. She suffered severe mouth injury due to an accident It was therefore a medico-legal case. Though she was bleeding and writhing in pain, nothing could be done till the next morning, An the X ray was taken .As the Doctor was absent on leave, she had wait till next day in such a serious condition that demanded immediate attention. The alternative was to refer her to specialty facility at Bambolim under the circumstances. Judging the situation of helplessness. the family requested for the discharge. They refused and hence the family had to voluntarily shift her to a private clinic The doctor attended to her on a priority basis lasting over 2hrs and granting her relief ,best needed. It is an open fact that the facility at the Govt Department is woefully inadequate in terms of equipment, medicines and support. It appears that persistent request have fallen on deaf ears due to negligence and lack of concerns. There is no point in maintaining a department that is handicapped and fully not functional at its optimum potential It is therefore advisable to close it down ,if it is not meant to serve n useful purpose intended any more But half hearted attempt just to prop it up , is a seer waste of public funds Nelson lopes Chinchinim 9850926276
