I agree with Cypriano Lopes (Sept 12 ) that in my school days soon after WW 2 , Chinchinim Church feast was celebrated in honour of Monte Saibin ( Mount Mary) and that it also should be celebrated on the 8th of September each year being the birthday of Our Lady.
It would be interesting to know on what basis it was changed to Our Lady of Hope. Cypriano is also right when he states that the origin of Chinchinim ( Chinch-onem ) village is attributed to Chinch tree i.e. the tamarind tree, onem either being an orchard or vast areas that were flooded by the river Sal during the high tides. Why villages like Assolna ( Ons-onem) and Carmona ( korm-onem) along with Chinch=onem are neighbours to each other along the River Sal.
