Golden Jubilee Arts Workshop open new chapter for Old Secretariat.

After more than 500 years, the Old Secretariat building (aka Palacio Idalcao) has been converted into public art gallery spaces.

Starting on 19th September, a landmark Golden Jubilee Arts Workshop will be hosted for three days on the premises by the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Goa, for the benefit of the entire artistic community of the state. All artists and photographers of Goa, along with seriously interested citizens are warmly invited to attend.

The workshop will be conducted by the curatorial committee that has been constituted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of decolonization, the Liberation of Goa, with a large-scale art exhibition to inaugurate the Old Secretariat. There will be daily presentations by some of the foremost authorities in their field.

Sudarshan Shetty is among the leading artists of his generation. His work hangs in major international museum collections. Though he has worked extensively in several mediums, he has particularly become known for large sculptural installations and multi-media works. He will talk about :

In addition, David de Souza will talk about Photography: Framing History, Capturing Cities, Vishvesh Kandolkar about The Phenomenology of Space, and curatorial team member Abhay Sardesai (Editor of Art India Magazine) on The Idea of the Avant-Garde: Making it New. Shorter presentations will also be made on each day, featuring interactions with senior artists, historians and others, as well as daily interactions with the curatorial team including Abhay Sardesai, Damodar Mauzo, Viraj Naik, Apurva Kulkarni and Vivek Menezes (co-ordinator).
