PRESS RELEASE Miss Ravina a minor school girl, diagnosed for appendicitis by their family doctor on 26/6/2010 was admitted at Pai Nursing Home on 2/7/2010. She was operated on 3/7/2010, developed post operation complications and began turning yellow, was readmitted after some days to Pai Nursing Home from where she was referred to GMC- Bambolim on 10/7/2010. No MLC was made on admission. She was operated upon again the same day; the family was not informed about the need for another emergency operation and she breathed her last without recovering on 29/7/2010 at GMC.
Bailancho Ekvott has been following up this case since the day of the Post Mortem on 30/7/2010 till date. Bailancho Ekvott has assisted and supported the family of the deceased in their struggle for justice and will continue to do so till the ends of justice have been met. Our records of the work done by us every month till date to hasten the Report of the Committee speaks for itself. Our constant petitions to all the authorities concerned with health resulted in forming a committee consisting of eminent doctors and was constituted under the Secretary, Health. We have been assisting the family in the complaints to the police stations at Vasco, Agassaim as well as to their several trips to depose before the committee at Secretariat- Porvorim irrespective of the time or cost incurred. We have learnt from a reliable source that the report of the committee was ready and since 26/7/2011 we have been again continuously asking for copies of the same under RTI. However the politicians are hell bent to protect the doctors responsible for her death due to their medical negligence and callousness. Finally, telephonic, e-mail, personal visits and our several efforts have culminated in a letter stating that they are helpless in giving us the necessary information as the file is not with the concerned department. It appears that they wish to manipulate the report to save the skin of the doctors who killed Ravina and have been found guilty by the Committee. We are going to appeal to the higher authorities under RTI for copies of the said report or will resent to any action deemed fit by us. We are determined to see this matter to its logical end. We have watched a VCD by Valanka Productions directed by Victor D’Cunha and the comments posted on the website that shows abusive/sexually colored comments about our Organization that looks like a money making gimmick which has invited responses from various observers. We have a reputation for our commitment and dedication to the cause of women and this is an attempt to tarnish our image. Ours is a Non-Funded, Non-Governmental, Voluntary Organization and we work as per our norms and our constitution. It is true that in a democracy, people are free to criticize, but criticism should be creative and not the destructive type. Destructive criticism can only create negative feelings in those who want to help others. We run an NGO available to assist people 365 days 24x7. The Goa Police will also vouch for this and also about uprightness in our issues. In case anyone feels that we are not able to provide the expected service, this being free feel free to stay away but kindly do not politicize our work.
