Sahil: Defying norms, aiming for Europe

The latest gem to be unearthed in a city that continually produces great
footballers is 15 year old, Sahil Tavora, grand-son of the legendry Augusto de
Noronha e Tavora, popularly known as Lube.

Sahil's interest in football was generated when he watched the Euro 2004
Championship. Prior to that, he was purely into cricket and was already
recognized as a prodigy in bowling.

With his new found interest, he got enrolled at the yearly summer camp at Don
Bosco under Coach Francis Rapose who coached him for those following two months.

After its completion, Coach Rapose permitted Sahil to practice daily with the
Don Bosco players in spite of him being a student at Sharda Mandir.

Cricket took a backseat after that.

Later, he was spotted by Paul Bast, Coach of the Ribander Club who took Sahil
under his wing, where Sahil played for the club for two years.

As his potential was unfolding in front of him, Sahil found the need to be
surrounded in an institution which would enhance his talent. So he took the
brave and rare step of leaving the private school to join Don Bosco much to
everyone's surprise, where he continued to play for the club. Then two years
ago, when he heard of the Brasil Futebol Academia, Sahil enrolled under the
training and guidance of Rodrigo, the head coach.

On wondering whether his academics suffer since he is currently in his final
and crucial year at school, Sahil states that football is just as crucial and
that there is a perfect balance between his academics and the game.

Sahil smiles and says that his biggest critic is his older brother, Nikhil, and
the end of a game is never complete for him till his brother criticizes his
mistakes.

Only naturally, Sahil's ambition would go across the seas to Europe, where he
hopes to make a career as a professional footballer and for that his every
decision in life is taken keeping his improvement in the game, in mind.

On an ending note with humility in his voice, he says he would like to thank
his team mates from his school team and BFA since football is a team sport and
without the support of his team, he would not have accomplished so much.

Mr. and Mrs. Tavora are blessed to have a son like Sahil but in hindsight, a
child always portrays what they have learnt from their parents.

QUOTE: Rodrigo, BFA Head Coach

"Sahil possesses international football qualities and certainly has all the
natural attributes of strength and pace. He is an unusual player, highly
creative and his main strength that sets him apart from other players is his
ability to think extremely fast. What is facilitating his improvement in
football is his consistent presence at every practice and a display of an
impeccable behavior on and off the field. Sahil is cool-headed and able to
assume several responsibilities in times of need. He is a player who is
destined to have a very successful career in football."
