Hai Carmen,
Who determines whether destruction of the Western Ghats due to mining is more
important an issue than the destruction of the coastline due to sand extraction
and other tourism related activities? For you the Western Ghats may be more
serious a problem, for others the concerns about the coastline. So each one
will do what they feel is right. For others in Salcette the menance of gated
housing colonies and filling of low lying areas are a far greater threat which
the other segment of Goans that are happy about as it is happening in christian
Salcette. So where is the question of you claiming Goan apathy because people
are slow to sign your petition?
Looking at Goa's problems with blinders is not going to Save Goa. Mining has
suddenly become the pet subject for right-wingers that got 80 lakhs after
raising the pitch of opposition. All this while any noise against mining was
anti-national and naxalitic.
Not surprising that no one is talking about the huge gas pipeline being laid
through the centre of Goa in the midst of Goan habitation.
