Saiba, as a former computer science student during the era of punch card and
paper tape, I appreciated google being the
best search engine and would like to draw your attention to their recent press
release on 21 November 2011.

Google. Learning from the world's typing mistakes since 1997. Google learns
from the typing slips and spelling mistakes
we all make when searching to help give you quicker and more accurate search
results. So if you type 'used carps' we
can guess that you probably meant 'used cars'.
Google hasn't got a degree in English. We can do this because over the years
we've studied how people search and
learnt what the most common mistakes are. So it's good to know all those little
mistakes aren't made in vain.

In the United Kingdom despite free education, we live in a sea of illiteracy
where it is reported that one in four children
leaves primary school unable to read and write properly. Our people know
everything. Even Encyclopedia Brittanica will
have had a hard time selling in Goa as it would have occupied shelf space
destined for cups and trophies on book cases. I
was happy to read in recent postings that shelf space has been made available
in a library for Goan writers. It would be
interesting to know what the take up on this is or do our current people prefer
to spend their time on the latest computer
gadgets on the market.
