Dear Exec. Com. members and members of JKS, and leaders of various Konkani organizations,

Greetings from the JKS Secretariat.

The ‘Goa Pradexik Sammell’ of JKS held on Nov. 20, 2011, at the Conference Hall of Tiatr Academy Goa, was a grand success with more than 100 participants attending and enthusiastically participating. 4 major decisions were taken as an outcome of the Sammell - 1) To lodge a strong protest with the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, for the injustice done to Konkani literature in scripts other than Devanagari, and demand that it considers all scripts in Konkani (including Devanagari) while awarding Awards, Projects and Assignments. 2) To lead a delegation and demand that Kala Academy Goa institute an Award for also literature in the Roman script. 3) Demand from the Government of Goa, permission to teach Konkani also in the Roman script, in the school curriculum. 4) Demand from the Government of Goa that the Official Language Act, which has been partial to the Devanagari script in Konkani, be amended to include the Roman script which is the major script of Konkani in Goa.

Shri Tomazinho Cardozo, our President has taken on the responsibility to follow-up all the 4 decisions, taken at the Sammell.

KARNATAKA PRADEXIK SAMMELL :
The ‘Karnataka Pradexik Sammell’ of JKS which was originally scheduled for Dec. 18, 2011, will now be held on Jan. 15, 2012, from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Kalaangann, Mangalore, under the leadership of Shri Roy Castelino, our Treasurer and all the Exec. Com. members from Karnataka and the undersigned. All Konkani organizations from Karnataka are requested to attend without fail. Organizations from outside Karnataka are also welcome. However, the Exec. Com. of JKS is requested to be present, as, the Exec. Com. will meet at 4.30 that evening, at the same place.

A separate invitation along with the agenda and other details will follow.

NATIONAL SEMINAR ON ‘SCRIPTS AND LANGUAGES IN MODERN INDIA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO KONKANI’ : As a follow-up of the decision of the 1st General Assembly - to genuinely attempt to resolve the script issue - JKS is organizing a National Seminar on ‘Scripts and Languages in Modern India with Special Reference to Konkani’. Professor Valerian Rodrigues, the head of the ‘Centre of Political Studies, School of Social Sciences’, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, will chair this Seminar and experts who have done their doctorate on this issue, will be presenting Papers on the subject.

This Seminar will be the first major attempt to gather outside, expert opinion on the script issue which has afflicted the Konkani movement all these years. This Seminar will also be a precursor to a democratic process that the JKS proposes to initiate, to set the ‘lipi’ issue at rest.

KERALA PRADEXIK SAMMELL :
The ‘Kerala Pradexik Sammell’ of JKS is proposed to be held at Ernakulam on March 4, 2012, under the leadership of our Vice President (India), Shri K. K. Utharan, supported by Shri K. Vijayan, Exec. Com. member.

DELHI PRADEXIK SAMMELL :
The ‘Delhi Pradexik Sammell’ of JKS is scheduled for March 18, 2012, under the leadership of Shri Vincent Menezes, the President of Kanara Cultural Association (Regd) Delhi, New Delhi and the Exec. Com. member of JKS.

MAHARASHTRA PRADEXIK SAMMELL :
The date and venue of the ‘Maharashtra Pradexik Sammell’ of JKS which will be held in Mumbai, will be intimated as soon as it is confirmed. Shri Ancy Paladka, our P.R.O, along with Associate Secretary, Shri Lawrence D’Souza Kamani and Shri Canute Menezes, the Exec. Com. member, are in charge.

GULF PRADEXIK SAMMELL :
‘Gulf Pradexik Sammell’ of JKS, is now being planned with Shri Pascal Pinto, Vice President (Gulf), who is in Mangalore at the moment. Details will be intimated.

U.K. PRADEXIK SAMMELL :
‘U.K. Pradexik Sammell’ of JKS will be planned with Shri Rene Barreto, Vice President (other countries), during his visit to India in the month of Jan., 2012.

I humbly request all Konkani organizations to actively participate in all the programmes of JKS. I also would like to remind all those who have not paid their Membership, to pay – Rs. 1 lakh (life) or Rs. 10,000/- (15 years) or Rs. 1,000/- (1 year) and regularize your Membership without further delay.
