Panjim: Various civil groups fighting a tirade against Digambar Kamat led
government on several issues including Regional Plan 2021 and the Medium of
Instruction (MoI) today met Yoga Guru Ramdev Baba, who has extended his full
support to these issues.
Civil groups like Village Groups of Goa, Pilerne Citizen Forum (PCF), Bharatiya
Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM), India Agianst Corruption (IAC) along with RTI
activist like Kashinath Shetye and Sudip Tamankar held meeting with Baba
placing across several issues haunting the State.
PCF president Prakash Bandodkar told Herald that Ramdev has extended his full
support in their fight against RP 21. He said almost 30 civil group members
today met Baba, wherein he was made aware of several facts on RP.
'We told him that the RP is basically planned to fulfill needs of politicians
and builders. We explained how large tracks of agricultural and orchard lands
are marked as settlement zones," Bandodkar said adding "Baba has asked his Goa
activists to be part of the public meeting, scheduled on December 16 against
RP'.
Anti-graft crusader Baba Ramdev, who has embarked on a five point mission to
Save Goa from the vices during his tour across the country, today also extended
his support to BBSM in their fight against local languages as MoI.
BBSM convenor Subhash Velingkar said that Baba has asked us to fight till the
end and he and his organisation will always stood by our support.
The campaign 'Goa Bachao Abhiyan' launched by Baba on friday has highlighted
five crucial issues of illegal mining, regional plan, medium of
instructions(protection to regional languages), waste management and casino,
booze and sex.
Talking to reporters today afternoon, Ramdev said that Goa has been hit hard
with these five issues spoiling its name at national level.
He said that illegal mining and the recently notified regional plan is nothing
but a way of loot for politicians, land mafias, industrialists thus depriving
locals from its own land and resources.
Baba also lamented state government's move of setting aside mother tongue and
giving priority to foreign language at primary education.
"We don't want foreign language for progress of the country or state. We don't
want foreign interference in the independent country," he stated. ramdev also
criticized government for failing to have proper waste management system in
place.
