Khushwant Singh once said that Mario has imprisoned him forever in a
light bulb. Maria drew the graphic that went with Khushwant's column,
With Malice Towards One and All. Mario worked under Khuswant when the
latter was editor of The Illustrated Weekly of India, now defunct.
Kushwant also spent holidays at Mario's house, which has been the
setting for Shyam Benegal's Trikaal. Mario also illustrated
Khushwant's collection of joke books.
I am surprised that no comments have come from the grand old man of
Indian letters. Maybe later, I hope.
