Remembering Tiatr Artistes of Yester Years
Tiatr Academy Goa will organize its monthly programme ‘Somplolea
Tiatristancho Ugddas’ (Remembering Tiatr Artistes of Yester Years) on
22nd December 2011 at 4:45 pm at the Black Box, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
The veteran artistes who were born in the month of December and who are
no more with us are:-
Miss Carlota D’Souza, Anthony Mendes, Socorro de Verna, Young Menezes,
Andrew Fernandes, Vincent de Saligao, Nolasco Dias, P. Nazareth, Rosario
D’souza, Rosario Dias, John Gomes (Kokoy) and David Rodrigues.
Miss Carlota was a leading lady of the tiatr in the first quarter of
20th century. Anthony Mendes the versatile comedian and Young Menezes
the fastest singer of the tiatr stage were also born in December. Male
artistes who did the roles of females in the tiatr namely Andrew
Fernandes and Vincent de Saligao will also be remembered. Socorro de
Verna a popular khellam mestri of yester years and Nolasco Dias and
P.Nazareth, both fine singers will also be remembered.
‘Somplolea Tiatristancho Ugddas’ is a TAG’s scheme which aims at
celebrating the gift of these artistes to the tiatr stage by bringing
them alive through their songs, dialogues or acting among the present
day tiatr loving people.
All tiatr lovers are requested to attend in large numbers.
