HOW MANY GOANS READ ROMAN SCRIPT KONKANI ON NIZ GOENKAR? by Menino Fernandes

All the Goans and specially the Catholics of Goa seem to be upset and have been
repeatedly accusing some of the Goans that they have a hidden agenda against
our mother tongue Konkani and hence in order to promote marathi they got
Konkani in devnagiri script as official language. Is this really true? There
are a lot of commentators themselves here on Niz Goenkar who say so in their
comments on the English articles.
I would certainly agree with all of you Goans all over the world and back at
home. But what strikes me a bit with curiosity that those who talk of their
love for Konkani in Roman Script are hardly trying to make an effort to read
it. None seem to be bothered to read our Mother tongue in Roman Script.
We attack the BBSM or Shashikala Tai or Bhembre etc that they are trying to
promote marathi in Goa using the platform of Konkani as their base. We accuse
them of deliberately installing Konkani in devnagiri script in order to promote
marathi.
But what are we doing to promote Konkani in Roman Script? Are we writing any
articles? Are we commenting on the Konkani articles? How can then we accuse the
above and their groups of promoting marathi when we do nothing to promote
Konkani in Roman Script
A lot of pains were taken on Niz Goenkar to have half the site for ROMAN SCRIPT
Konkani. But the response is so poor that I really feel ashamed that when
people say something they fail to follow it practically.
Efforts are being made to promote our Mother tongue in Roman Script here at
this very site. There were lots of requests made to people to send in their
articles in Roman script Konkani to Niz Goenkar. Till date a few eminent
writers on our site like Freddy Agnelo Fernandes, Joel Morais, Aniceto Barreto,
Bartholomeu Betu Fernandes, Diogo Lazarus Pereira and myself submit Konkani
articles here for you all Goans who love Konkani to read.
It is definite that there are hundreds of Goans who do write Roman script
Konkani fluently. Why do you not come forward? Why do you forsake our Konkani
in Roman script as it is this Roman script Konkani that kept it alive and its
lamp burning only to be followed by others later on quite recently?
Mojea Mogachea Goenkarano, you have an opportunity here on NIZ GOENKAR to
promote Roman script Konkani. Make use of it to spread our language everywhere.
If in United Kingdom of Great Britain, the Swindon Borough Council can use our
Konkani for official purposes then why not we start writing more in Konkani and
commenting on the Konkani articles. This way we can achieve a lot for Konkani
in Roman Script
Come on Goans let us show everybody specially those that try to promote marathi
in Goa that we really love our Konkani and that too in Roman script by
commenting on the articles (which can be a start to beginners) and writing
articles on various subjects and on Goa. The government of Goa too does not
like to promote Konkani in Roman script so let us beat it to them.
Niz Goenkar sincerely hopes that the sons and daughters of Goa will henceforth
take an interest in our Mother tongue and as is our demand with the Goan
government, so shall we start to show the government that we are going to use
the script that we love so much to promote our mother tongue. Long Live KONKANI!
