The real reason why DGP Dr Arya was booted out of Goa 2011-12-23 There is more than meets the eye in the transfer of DGP Dr Aditya Arya in one of the briefest postings of a DGP in Goa. Barely seven months after taking office in Goa, Dr Arya was bundled out in double quick time. That his only transgression was taking his official car out of the state without the proper paperwork being done seems incredible. The DGP seemed to have stepped on several high placed toes in the state when he informed his police officials that they should report back to him whenever they had meetings with politicians. He was also quick to place certain policemen under suspension.
What actually resulted in his ouster was his midnight raid at a dance club which was a prostitution den, and booking cases against nine persons for running the club. He also pulled up the North Goa District SP for denying that brothels under the guise of dance bars existed. Charles Correia was taken to see Dr Arya and he was shown Russian websites and one called sexygoa.com. He was shown how the Russian underworld have taken over Mandrem and Morjim beaches and that even though those beaches are notified as eco beaches, the Russians break all the rules. The Russians are even reported to be using bouncers and guns. The locals are too afraid to lodge complaints and those locals who see an easy way to make money have joined them in drug dealing, rave parties and prostitution. Home Minister Ravi Naik is alleged to be aware of the various rackets going on in the area. Dr Arya visited the beaches and was shocked. He promised to do a raid. Considering that not only greedy Goans are helping grow the illegal businesses in these beaches, but politicians too are involved, it is no wonder that a cop actually dared to disturb the status quo. A complaint was made to the Chief Minister, strings were pulled and a cop who actually had a plan to clean up Goan society, was shunted out. There are stories, unproven as yet, that the Chief Minister and Home Minister twice tried to transfer this untainted cop.Observers say that false stories are being planted in the media. But the national media is going to be pulled into this new controversy that is dogging the government. We have been opening our doors to Russian tourists after numerous road shows by the Goa Tourism Department in Moscow. The Russians have come in and they are a law unto themselves.
