PANJIM: It’s a date finally.
Ending days of speculation, the Chief Election Commissioner of India SY
Qureshi announced that polls for the 40- member Goa legislative assembly
will be held on March 3, 2012 while the counting will be held on March
4, 2012.
The term of Goa assembly ends on June 14, 2012. However, the Election
Commission of India ( ECI) decided to have elections three months ahead
of schedule alongwith four other States of Uttar Pradesh, Manipur,
Punjab and Uttarakhand.
After announcement of the elections, the Model Code of Conduct comes
into effect immediately from now onwards.
As per the schedule for Goa, the notification will be issued on February
6, 2012 ( Saturday) and the last date for filing nominations is February
13, 2012 ( Saturday).
Scrutiny of nominations will be done on February 14, 2012 ( Tuesday) and
the last date for withdrawal is February 16, 2012 ( Thursday).
The EC has fixed March 9, 2012 ( Friday) as the date before which the
election process shall be completed.
