PETITION: We want Dr. Aditya Arya back as the DGP of Goa
Why This Is Important
MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS VIOLATES ELECTION CODE OF CONDUCT & CHALLENGES
SUPREME COURT
The Issue:
In a clear contempt of the Supreme Court & violation of Election code of
conduct, the home ministry has violated Supreme Court directives and
moved orders to transfer the DGP of Goa, Dr. Aditya Arya within seven
months of his appointment.
Transfer order for the DGP were issued on the 20th December 2011 and
executed in a haste just one day prior to the announcement of State
Legislative Assembly elections immediately to the convenience of the
ruling Congress party and the Drug Mafia.
With elections in Goa scheduled on March 3 2012, the Ministry of Home
Affairs has decided to ignore the Supreme Court Directives issued in its
landmark judgment of Prakash Singh and Others v/s Union of India. The
Ministry of Home Affairs, taking advantage of an overburdened judiciary
reluctant to take up matters Suo Motto, has decided to lock horns with
the Supreme Court of India.
What was the landmark judgement in the case of Prakash Singh and Others
v/s Union of India?
In an effort to provide the Police with some level of independence from
consistent political interference and to ensure that the police serves
the Law and the Public, rather than just politicians, the said Supreme
Court judgment has clearly stipulated that “the Director General of
Police for any state once appointed would serve a tenure of minimum two
years. “
Who is Dr. Aditya Arya?
Dr Aditya Arya, an honest an upright police officer, served with the
Rashtrapati Bhavan before coming to Goa as its DGP on the 14th May 2011.
His visible stand to curb the Drug Mafia in Goa clearly did not go well
with the powers in control and was clearly not suitable to the political
masters.
So, what are we petitioning?
We earnestly petition and appeal to the Hon. Election Commission of
India to minutely peruse the chronological events in the transfer of DGP
Goa, so that public does not lose the faith in the democratic process of
elections in particular and Election Commission of India in general.
This campaign is through the Goa Unit of India Against Corruption.
