According to Joao de Veiga Coutinho, Goans could be classified in to two
groups:
1) Konkani speaking Catholics who are in a vast majority
2) Portuguese speaking, Catholic by religion, Indian by blood, and brahmin
by caste ( which
they have never discarded on conversion --- perhaps for the greater glory
of God )
There are two brahmanic aspects they have completely forgotten
1) They do not remember what kind of brahmins they were before conversion,
i.e. whether they
are Saraswats or Daivadnyas or Karadis or Chitpawans ets.
2) They have wiped off from their psyche their connection with Hindu
brahmin relatives living
in the Novas Conquistas.
