*Cyriaco Dias Interacts with his Fans*

* *

Cyriaco Dias, a very prominent tiatr artiste of yester years stated that
the tiatr artistes of the past had to undergo a lot of sacrifices in order
to preserve and promote tiatr at that time. He was interacting with his
fans during the monthly programme ‘Meet the Artiste’ – ‘Kolakorak Bhett’
organized by Tiatr Academy Goa (TAG) recently.

Cyriaco Dias, who is also a freedom fighter, speaking further said during
his childhood, he scripted a tiatr namely *‘Zomin Amchi Hukum
Tumchi’*which was against the dictatorship of the Portuguese in Goa.
However this
play did not see the light of the day as his elders did not permit him to
stage the play due to fear of the Portuguese dictatorship.

Cyriaco Dias who has dominated the tiatr scene in the 1950s, 60s and 70s
performing numerous character roles said that his role as Jesus in the
tiatr *‘Soddvondar’* was the best in his carrier. However, tiatr lovers
loved his role as the Goan landlord of the Portuguese time. He could
perform the role with authenticity as Cyriaco was fluent with Portuguese
language.

Answering questions from his fans he disclosed that as a tiatr artiste he
has not made any money, but has gained a lot of popularity and respect
among the Goan people.

Earlier Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo, President of TAG welcomed the audience and
later Shri. Victor de Sa, Member Secretary of TAG proposed a vote of
thanks. Shri. Joy Fernandes compeered the function.
