I quote from the Times of India:
"And as the first day of the New Year dawned, locals along the beach belt were
met with repulsive scenes. Plastics, empty liquor bottles and all kinds of
thrash including human excreta littered the beaches. Drunken tourists slept on
the beaches, near their cars on roadsides and, in Calangute some even in the
fields."

Now possibly Eugene and Frederick did not go for a walk along the beach. If
they did, they didn't mind. They just kicked the offending material aside in
their patent leather shoes and continued whistling the tune to "mak saiba vat
dakoi."

If that wasn't enough to repulse you the other news story that made the papers
on the same days was this:
 http://www.heraldgoa.in/News/Local%20News/Slum-belt-at-Zuari-Nagar-is-a-sanitation-disaster/55681.html

I quote:
"Defecation in the open by migrant slum dwellers of the entire belt from Zuari
Nagar till Zorint is a sanitation disaster in the making."

But wait there is good news. Apparently someone in Delhi and subsequently our
wonderful Tourism board thinks that turning Goa into a Monaco-styled racing
circuit would be a good idea and hence this story.

"Goa may be home to next Indian F1 circuit, to compete with Monaco F1 track"

Let us look forward to a bare and denuded Goa but with a race car
circuit, peppered with many more droppings because it is far better to sleep on
the race course than book a hotel room. Let us call that freedom to do whatever
one pleases in the interests of democracy.

Frederick will kiss Eugene on the cyber-cheek and say something like "well
said" and to the defecate-anywhere-whose father what goes tourists, "good job
well done." Selma will be called elitist, racist, white than white, expat, NRI,
whatever. I don't care anyway. I like my wine white and my meat brown.

Best,
Selma
