The Quest For Navelim

Churchill after have eaten the humble pie at the hand of his friend turned foe
Micky Pacheco, though it prudent to contest the elections from Navelim rather
than Benaulim, at the last election, as the defeat to Micky shook up his
confidence in the people of Benaulim. At Navelim he took on his another friend
turned "bete noire" Luizinho Faleiro a veteran Congressman and a former CM at
the last election and won it comfortably and Luizinho who seemed invincible for
two decades became the victim of the Law of Diminishing Support.

The Law of Diminishing Support comes into effect when a long standing
politician takes people for granted and becomes a non performer or performs
only for himself or herself rather than the people, that's when the Law of
Diminishing Support sooner or later hits you below the belt and leaves the
politician gasping for air and we have seen that Lusizinho is still gasping for
air in Goan politics.

If one analyzes the result of the last election at Navelim, it was only the
anti Lusizinho wave that got Churchill the victory and certainly not a pro
Churchill wave but now five years down the line it looks like the Law of
Diminishing Support is set to catch up with Churchill himself as there is a lot
of resentment for the strong arm tactics he uses, for his support for the
builders, the corruption he espouses and to top it all for his firm belief in
dynastic politics. People are aware of what two Alemaos have done to Goa and
four of them is just unthinkable.

At the moment the broth is simmering at Navelim and the blackmail seemed to
have worked, as the gauntlet thrown by the big man of Varca has forced the
Congress think tank to shift Luizinho Faleiro, the veteran Congressman, to the
North East frontier of India. Paving the way for Churchill to exercise and flex
his muscles in South Goa.

Churchill no doubt enjoys some support through his well entrenched tentacles in
the Navelim Panchayat and believes his generosity to them can win him the
coming election as well but if he thinks he is going to have a cake walk with
Luizinho out of contention, he will be very much mistaken, as residents of
Navelim had warned Lusizinho not to contest the coming election as they
preferred to support their local lad Avertano Furtado who now seems to enjoy
considerable support from the locals and he has already started having core
meetings with his valued village supporters and overwhelming support for young
Avertano is just a matter of time but the only problem is the BJP and now the
GVP.

The BJP at the last elections did not field a candidate but supported Churchill
against the Congress, as Churchill had secretly made a deal with Manohar
Parrikar to support the BJP if he won the election with the support of the BJP
but we all know what followed and looks like the BJP supremo hasn't forgiven
him for the treachery. The question now is, is Manohar Parrikar foolish enough
to gamble by fielding a minority candidate to get even with Churchill or wise
enough to extend unconditional support to the opposition against Churchill ? If
there is a three way contest then Churchill will most certainly benefit as his
votes will not be affected, his supporters will stick with him no matter what,
but votes against Churchill will get disbursed and that will not be a wise move
for the Churchill's detractors.

Micky Pacheco too is trying to fire a salvo at Churchill from the shoulders of
young Avertano, but I am sure Avertano even though new to politics will be wise
enough not to let others make use of him for their benefit. Navelimkars have
pledged support to Avertano as an independent candidate and should stay that
way and if both Micky and the Parrikar want to get rid of the Alemao menace,
they should support Avertano unconditionally. Even though the Law of
Diminishing Support is catching with the Varca strongman, a united effort will
be required to beat the corrupt Congress at Navelim because believe me, money
will be poured in huge amount to buy votes and it will be the will of
Navelimkars that will ultimately be tested to take Avertano to victory. Are
Navelimkars up to it ?
