As a latecomer to Goa full of ideas to help make our motherland a better place,
I was all fired up. Gradually and grudgingly it dawned on me that our folks
dont give a damn. As long as we get our daily xitt-codi and "koppachem", we
are susegado. That is why we have been taken advantage of by all and sundry.
When we wake up from our slumber like
Rip Van Winkle it will be too late. Actually, it is already too late, the
damage has been done. RP-2021 ? Has it been adopted ? At the local level the
chamchas that control our daily lives operate as though it has already been
passed and is the law of the land. People build on land designated at private
forest, or encroach on public or communidade land.
Who gives a damn ?
The illegal mining issue has run its course and no longer makes headlines. the
illegal miners will be laughing all the way to the bank. The media will now
focus on other
"newsworthy topics". Business as usual.
Soon people will go to the polls, code of conduct or not, cash will be dished
out to buy votes and the same crooks, this time with relatives in tow, will be
elected. After all
Politics in Goa is a family enterprise. Till then we will stay in a state of
inebriation.
Goa is now "Goo..hah"
