Tony, your post was very interesting and far from boring. In fact it triggered
so many responses to decorated Goans that it made the whole exercise a pleasure.
Now if only someone were to give a detailed account of why an MBE or OBE was
deserved, it would make it even more evocative.
While it is recognized that the Brits gave their honors sparingly but
deservedly, as did India in the early years of independence (they are available
for sale now, in more ways than one), it would help to know how a DC or a PC or
a Governor would overcome his natural resistance to giving a coveted
recognition to a non-white, in this case a Goan.
