Fred, it is not that you were right, but, rather that you are always on the

Your mention of Nyerere and Mandela in the same light as Mugabe is very valid.
I shudder to think what could have happened if Gandhi or MLK were allowed the
luxury of influencing their respective nations into their twilight years. The
corrupting
influence of years in power does distort people's views and priorities.
Conversely,
it could be argued that when one occupies the commanding heights of authority
for
a long time, one can anticipate and predict issues, plots and sabotage that
most
subjects fail to comprehend.  As goanet's longest standing volunteer and head
of
its pre-crime unit,  I'm sure you have encountered numerous activities that
could
have remotely or randomly  subverted this forum. In fact you vaguely alluded to
in
the 2010 Goanetter's meeting. In light of this, the moderation of posts on
goanet,
the sometimes long and mysterious delays in posts etc, seem very understandable.

Marlon,
At one point, the Attorney General of Zanzibar was a Goan named W. Dourado.
Dourado was one of the few people who had the guts to stand up to Nyerere. At
the
height of his power, Nyerere had Dourado arrested and thrown into the petty
criminals
jail in Dar. Nyerere did not bother to charge Dourado. The British had left
Tanzania with
a  law called the, ``Preventive Detention Act,`` that allowed the Govt to
arrest anyone
before s/he did anything they may not like. The fact that Dourado was
a constant pain in
the neck to Nyerere, was enough a reason for Dourado to be arrested.

To make a long story short, Nyerere did not run again for office after Dourado
was
jailed. Amnesty International got on his case and Nyerere retired soon after,
but the damage was done. Nyerere had a tarnish mark on his resume.

Like you have suggested, there seems to be a peculiar problem on Goanet.
The rules that are in place are ignored by the moderators. In addition, special
posters seem to get special treatment. Some are allowed, nay, encouraged to post
abusive comments while those who want to present just the facts, find
their posts
delayed, denied or disappear.

Some members, myself included, have been groaning about the same for years now.

What is new today is that even the mildest of posters have no problems stating
that
they have had enough. No one needs to be micro-managed. No one wants to have
a pissing match with a skunk. No one needs to be told on the forum
that the moderator
deems their posts as not, ``meaningful.``

Lastly, a lot of the leaders in E. Africa could have retired from office with
their reputations
intact.

They decided not to.
