You did nothing wrong.
Once again - one may link to a website or reproduce a link without any
permission. You do not need to notify the website owner in this case.
However, if you reproduce any content from that website, then the rules of
copyright come into play.
There is another aspect to this, too. For example, in the past people would
link directly to the music clips on my music site without citing the parent
page they were from. This nominally satisfies the condition I stated above.
However, what they are doing here is using my bandwidth to serve their purpose.
A link or two to directly to the audio files is fine according to "fair use"
but if you produce an entire farm of links that is unfair. These guys could
have instead given the link to my parent page where these audio files are
resident.
Hope I haven't further confused the issue.
