SALIENT POINTS MADE BY SHRI SHANTARAM NAIK M.P. IN HIS PRESS CONFERENCE HELD IN CONGRESS HOUSE PANAJI ON 30th Jan.2012

Mr Shantaram Naik M.P. and Secretary AICC in a scathing attack made by him against BJP said that BJP appears to have a systematic plan in place to crush bahujansamaj from gaining prominence in Goan politics.

Addressing a press conference, today, in Congress House, Panaji, Mr Naik said that although, what they do with their MP Sripad Naik’s desire to contest Assembly election is their internal party matter , but the talk of town that local BJP leadership will not allow Mr Naik to raise his head in local politics is very strong, and that, people are recollecting that even in the past when Mr Naik stood as candidate from Ponda constituency, some leaders in BJP themselves ensured his defeat.

In congress too, BJP targeted basically Mr Ravi Naik , which speaks volumes of the true nature of BJP which belongs only to higher-ups in the society Mr Naik said.

Mr Naik said BJP’s Mission Salcete II going to be a disaster again . How will BJP explain to the minorities about the acts of vandalism of their satellite organization as regards demolition of chapels, molestation of nuns and harassment of the members of minority communities in Karnataka and in other States ?

And further, Mr Naik said, how will the former BJP Government and former Chief Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar going to explain cancellation of Good Friday and Old Goa Feast holidays ?Even if BJP asks for the pardon , minorities may pardon him and overlook his sins but, they will not trust him by a positive vote.

Mr Naik said that he was confident that Congress Party is going to get majority on their own and, NCP is going to be their valued partner in the Government.

Mr Naik said that people of Goa hate arrogancy and they would not like to support a party whose leadership is not only arrogant but is notorious for their arrogancy.

Mr Naik further said that good governance can be achieved with proper co-operation from the bureaucracy . A Chief Minister who is a terror to bureaucracy and disregards service rules and takes revenge by extra-constitutional means can never achieve development targets of a government.

Chief Minister Shri Digamber Kamat might have had his share of some failures but he was accessible to the people and was a responsive leader, Mr Naik said.


Mr Naik said that BJP leader and Opposition Leader in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Arun Jetley who came down to Goa recently to charge Goa Government of Corruption should explain the people of the country regarding the institutionalized mining corruption and iron ore thefts which brought bad name to the State in the entire country.

A party whose President Mr Bangaru Laxman was caught on camera should keep their mouth shut on corruption , Mr Naik said.

In BJP ruled Madhya Pradesh Clerks and peons have been cought with crores of illegal money, he said.

Mr Naik said BJP believes in divide and rule policy and, even today, they do not face elections on any positive achievements but rely on negative hopes of split in congress votes.

Mr Naik said that Goan electorate have to be alert as BJP has chosen some leaders who are known to be anti-minorities and experts in communal divide to campaign in Goa.

Mr Narendra Modi Chief Minister of Gujrat is welcome to campaign in Goa as Mr Modi’s presence in Goa will expose the true colour of Goa BJP’s Mission Salcete II, said Mr Naik.

Mr Naik said that Goa has achieved a growth of 21% inspite of Global recession.

Goa has given a boost to agriculture by raising the fund allocation from 27 crores to 52 crores, he said.

In health sector, new District Hospital in Mapuca has become operative and new hospital in Margao is under costruction, Mr Naik said.

Mr Naik said that Goa is the first State in the country to implement mediclaim scheme which benefited 1461 patients in 2010-11.

Insurance cover is given to entire population upto Rs.60,000 per annum to the entire population.

Students of class XII are going to be given free computers while 335 teachers have been given computers on interest free loan basis., Mr Naik said.

Goa is the first State in the country to complete the project of computerization of land records , under which people will now get both texts and maps under computerized system, Mr Naik said.

As regards mining Mr Naik said it is the Mining Ministry of the UPA government itself which has, on their own, appointed a Inquiry Commission to go into the matter of illegal mining and further added hat it is the State Government on their own which requested the Central Government not to give environment clearances to new mining operations till new environment policy is announced.
