A few days ago in the UK, Chris Huhne, Energy Secretary and at one time
candidate for deputy Prime-Minister resigned after allegations surfaced once
again that he had asked his wife to take his driving penalty points. These
allegations are being investigated and will in all probability lead to charges
brought against him. He has ofcourse resigned over driving misconduct.

A few days ago we read in Goan newspapers of a pretty solid report by the I-T
department detailing Babush Monserrate's "involvement" to the tune of 26
crores in plans to denude Goa. This of course follows "allegations" that he was
caught with a suitcase full of money at Dubai airport, "allegations" that he
led a mob which attacked a police station and "allegations" that he was the
mastermind behind the infamous and now mercifully defunct Regional plan.
Today we read that he will be Congress' candidate for Santa Cruz. No charges
will ever be brought against him.

When democracy is divested of all its moral responsibility, it ceases to be a
democracy. It is just a hideous monster devouring its people in the firm belief
that it has every right to do so.
