There is NO contest about that. Unfortunately, Manohar Parrikar has his apron strings tied to the RSS and BJP. I trust those two outfits as much as I trust the Kangress. I also believe that Matanhy Saldanha has every right to choose which party he wishes to join. Personally - for the past 10 years - I strongly believed that he was a BJP. I am glad that he has finally been honest enough to come out of the closet. a: I am not sure HOW Gerald Oliveira comes to the conclusion in #1. "Better" based on what? Past record or present mouthings? b: re #2, I do not know the meanings of the partisan "talking point" i.e. Secularist .....and its cousin pseudo-secularist....but I'd say this to Gerald ..... The VideoCD stuff was NO simple matter. If you have seen the CD like I have, you (possibly) would have been aghast at the vicious (albeit clever) attack on Christianity and Christians contained therein. The 'Good Friday' issue IMHO is a non-issue. Religion has NO place in public service. If the Church wishes to have a service for Govt workers during working days, it should do so after working hours. The Govt is NOT obligated to declare holidays when Govt work is yet to be done. Those who want to attend religious functions on working days, should take Vacation or Unpaid leave on those days. What is the sense of giving Holidays to a set of people who are perpetually on Holiday anyway? I would support Parrikar if he cancelled ALL religious holidays for Govt servants. The Good Friday issue (a personal worship issue) is quite different from the disgustingly devious and communally divisive issue created by the VCD. Let us not even begin to confuse the two. Apologies would be a good start ....but not really enough. There must be a firm commitment NEVER to repeat that nonsense again. What Geraldo Oliveira is suggesting, I believe, that One set of Delhi controls be replaced by another.
