In these past few weeks three incidents or more marked the daily lives of Goans
not only in Goa but also world wide. One was the Musuem dacoity, the other, the
institutionalized dacoity ie the case of corruption with the monster rat
involved and the third, the case of bullying by the indian navy in not allowing
Goans to participate in religious festivities on Anjediva.
But this is how it all began ....... Ugly looking bearded sikhs and uglier
looking marathas and madrassis went about turning the place upside down,
looting houses and ransacking churches, despoiling shops of their stocks and
generally behaving very much like barbarians of thirteenth century whenever
they swooped down from their mountain lairs on the lush fields and rich cities
of their more civilized neighbours. They robbed and devastated where they could
and exacted purchases at a ridiculously low price where they could not,
removing everything to the illegal black markets maintained by their relations
back in the indian union, where huge ungodly profits would be the order of the
day.... Page 205. - December 1961. - Nehru Sezies Goa - L. Lourenço.
