*From what I understand, in India, a local can never be a Governor of the
state they were born in.... Something to do with prevention of secession as

It is pure convention or tradition. Nothing to do with secession. Governors
have minimum role to play in day-to-day administration. They are mere
titular heads. They play a important role only during government formation
and when the government disintegrates. Dr Karan Singh, a Kashmiri was
Governor of J&K from 30.3.1965 to 15.5.1967. Mr B K Nehru was also Governor
of J&K from 22.2.1981 to 26.4.1984. Nehru originally hailed from J&K. I
guess it has much to do with checks and balances and good corporate
governance.
