Xabas Goenkara! There cannot be a much smarter political animal than the Goan.
What a Change yaar? Reason has been trampled upon and emotions have triumphed
as usual. Goans have once again proved that their political options can only
emerge from among Matka Kings, Mining Lords, Real Estate Developers, Drug Mafia
and Religious Fanatics. This is what Goans seem to be proclaiming as their
'Change Politics'. The Goan seems to be consoling himself by reassuring that
their vote for the BJP is only minus its decades old Hindutva ideology. A
further display of gross ignorance about Indian politics. What lauds itself of
being a progressive society is devoid of just women representation in the
Legislative Assembly. Where is the scope for gender equality in this goan
politics of change?
To forget history is to keep repeating the errors time and again and becoming
politically and socially irrelevant. Whether it be from the Opinion Poll or
agitations like that for konkani, anti-meta strips, konkan railway realignment,
anti-RP-2011, lessons do not seem to have been learnt. That is why there
continues be no official recognition for konkani in the roman script, denial of
grants for primary education in English, high rate of in-migration and the
rest. To demand a resolution to these problems continues to invite the label of
being an anti-national and pro-Portuguese. And the present 'Corruption hatao',
or 'Family Raj se bachao' campaigns will prove no different than the past 'Use
and Throw' policy of Goa's dominant class. In the end foolishness triumphs in
Goa and the wise doomed for ridicule. An appeal to reason is the equivalent of
cynicism. A Goa turning into a Soddom and Gomorrah seems inevitable after the
results of these polls 2012. Trouble has ben invited t
o the door step. Goa seems lost forever.
