Subject: The single most priority of Manohar Parrikar Governemnt, 2012
The Goa Su-Raj Party congratulates the Goa BJP for attaining the magic
figure of 21 on its own after a long time in the March 3 GLA Elections
2012.
Therefore, the single most priority of this BJP Government must be to get
Special Status for Goa. Central Union Minister has gone on record to tell
Goa's MPs to produce the Resolution passed in the Goa Legislative Assembly
demanding Special Status for Goa when requests for such have been made time
and time again. Unfortunately, Goa's Legislative Assembly has beaten around
the bush for far too long on the need for Goa to attain Special Status but
has fallen shy of passing the requisite resolution in the Goa Legislative
Assembly, probably due to Goa having had hung-Assemblies in the recent
past.
This time, the BJP government of Goa cannot and must not be absolved. On the
contrary it has a member of the Legislative Assembly in Shri. Matanhy
Saldanha, a vociferous votary of the Special Status for Goa. Goans do expect
him to urge his government to pass the required resolution immediately,
especially when this government has the magic 21 strength to do so. This
becomes the priority number one for this government because the past
Congress ruled coalition government couldn't rise up to the occasion and was
just giving lip service.
In routing the Congress in the recent elections, Goans have put their foot
down saying 'enough is enough'. Goa's unique identity is being diluted over
the years and is in danger of being lost out completely in a matter of few
more years. Therefore, with a votary of Special Status like Matanhy Saldanha
being the integral part of this government, it is an easy task for this
government to achieve.
Goans must demand that Goa Legislative Assembly pass this resolution within
3 months of the new government taking over, a task that is so very easy to
execute. If this is not forth coming , then Goans must understand that the
BJP government does not want to entertain Goan's demand for the Special
Status on the lines that Nagaland enjoys so that Goa's unique identity and
land resources are protected. In that case they will have no choice but to
boot this government out sooner than later.
Let this be the TEST for the Manohar Parrikar government of Goa, 2012.
Goa does not need the financial Special Status which the Congress government
has been asking the Center for. Goa requires Special Status that has been
promised to Goans much before 1961 by none other than Pandit Jawaharlal
Nehru and which has been kept dangling until now by subsequent Central
governments considering Goans to be spine-weak and therefore not to be
taken seriously
.
It is to be remembered that Goa Su-Raj Party has been campaigning for
Special Status in the 2012 Elections. It has started the work of collecting
vast number of signatures, in fact two lakh each from North and the South.
Goans take heed and solidly stand by the demand for SPECIAL STATUS from this
new BJP government if it is the first thing that it does to show it's will
to work for Goa and Goans as is being given to understand.
Or else .... Goans will know what to do.
