EVM manipulation let down AlemaosThanking the people of Navelim for their
support in the assembly elections, Mr Churchill Alemao, the former chief
minister and PWD Minister on Wednesday attributed his loss to "Manipulation of
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with the introduction of the poll-monitoring
system.’’ Mr Alemao further said that a petition will be filed with the Chief
Election Commission in Delhi. Citing an example of securing certain sure votes
in a particular booth at Navelim, Mr Alemao said, "I got 24 votes in a polling
booth at Navelim, where I was sure of 450 votes. I can parade the people who
had voted for me. They too are shocked to see the results of EVMs. These
machines never showed the symbols on it unlike the last election where party
symbols were put up. Hence there were 90 per cent chances of manipulation of
votes,’’ he said, blaming the EVMs while addressing the media. [NT]
QUESTION: Sure he can parade the people who voted for him but he did not go
with each and every individual to the EVM? They took his gifts and ran away to
vote the other way! Maybe having Keith Vaz on the dais with Valanka got the
people (voters) upset.
