Registered airmail (or the cheaper surface-air-lifted option, delivery
usually well within 4 weeks) works best. The latter is a good option
if the parcel is heavier.

If it's small, make sure to send it as a postal "small packet" (rather
than parcel, which takes more time and could get flung around).

Air courier is unnecessarily costly, and not worth if if a few days
don't matter. So is the postal department's international Speedpost,
which is disproportionately overcharged. (Speedpost works well within
India, and specially effectively within Goa, at just Rs 12 per slim
letter.)

Sending it "with someone" can cause inconvenience for both sides,
unless it's some small equipment which might not get through via the
post. For books, I've almost never faced a problem. Registered post is
essential (costs just a few rupees more), but make sure someone is
there at the other end to pick it up.
