Soter: "Absolutely right Dom! The Art arena in Goa is also being colonised
by the market forces that dictate Goan politics. "
Friends,
when I wrote what I did, it was in good faith. It was supposed to be a joke.
Because this is Goanet and we are all friends.
The truth of the matter is that compared to the terribly dry years in Art prior
to 1990, whatever
happens in Goan art field today is a thousand times more encouraging. There are
people doing quite some commendable work
in the arts in Goa. (I am saying this despite the fact that I have been ignored
by powers that be in Goa, including the Kola-aka-dummy.)
But that apart, I see only good happening to the art scene and If this
continues, I have no doubt that soon Goa will create an atmosphere
which will make many a creative mind to come to her shores.
"Market forces" are vital to the creation of Art. At no point in the history of
world art has there been any significant art
without patronage. Politics also, in its own right, provides incentive to the
creation of art.
Apropos of the article which started this thread, there are details which I may
not know about behind the various reactions it
provoked. Like I said, my comment was supposed to be in the lighter vain and
perhaps without the merit of fact.
I apologize for adding to the controversy, should there be one.
