Shantaram Naik replaces Singhvi on Law Committee

Mr Shantaram Naik M.P. has been appointed as Chairman of the Standing Committee of Parliament on Personnel Public Grievances, Law and Justice by the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

Appointment has been made by the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Shri Hamid Ansari through a notification issued today.

The post of Chairman had fallen vacant on account of the resignation of Shri Abhishek Manu Singhvi, a few days back.

Mr Naik will be taking charge of office on Monday 6th May, 2012.

The Committee had recently submitted its report on two important bills, namely, Lokpal Bill and Whistle Blower Bill.

Presently a bill on the subject of Citizen Charter is under the consideration of the Committee. Issues related to women employees, their problems at the workplace, specially in reference to the guidelines framed by the Supreme Court in Vishakha Case, are also being studied by the Committee.

Institutions like CBI, Central Vigilance Commission, Election Commission and UPSC come under its jurisdiction.
