Hi all Basketball/ Sports lovers, The Basketball scene in Goa is presently down in the dumps due to mishandling by the Goa Basketball Association managing committee which has been governing the sport in an undemocratic manner for the last more than 25 years.
In this regard, a letter (addressed to the CM) has been drafted, asking him to investigate the functioning of the Association and to take appropriate action as may be required required to set things right. You are requested to kindly go through the contents of the Letter which is appended below and to endorse the same if you agree with it. We the following Basketball/ Sports Clubs, Basketball Players and other Sports lovers hereby request you to kindly look into the functioning of the Goa Basketball Association. The present committee has been governing the sport for last more than 25 years at least in a very dictatorial, arbitrary and undemocratic manner. The standard of Basketball in Goa has fallen substantially and Goa has been the laughing stock nationally due to this mis-governance and high handedness by the present administrators. Better Players, particularly those who do not toe the line of the current administrators, have regularly been sidelined in favour of players of lesser distinction. As such, Teams representing Goa have never been full strength ones resulting in Goa consistently performing poorly on the National circuit. No proper training and coaching camps have been held while Goan Coaches have consistently been given the cold shoulder by the current set of administrators. Several good players have thus left the game after being consistently harassed by the GBA officials. Under the current regime, the standard of Basketball has come down drastically, presently down in the dumps completely with hardly any sponsors coming forward to support the game. While we live in a democratic set-up, hardly any democracy exists in the functioning of the Goa Basketball Association. No free and fair elections have been held for the committee posts for the past several years. The Constitution and the Bye laws have been doctored by the present Association in their favour, against the spirit of democracy and the Constitution of India. Despite the fact that majority of the Basketball Players and/ or active clubs have opposed the functioning of the Association, the committee continues to cling on to power in a completely illegal manner. You are requested to kindly intervene to uplift and revive the game of Basketball in Goa. A small coterie of individuals cannot be allowed to hijack the game for their petty self-centered gains and interests. A body governing the sport in Goa must be a true body supported by majority clubs and not a manipulative one. The present committee does not enjoy support of a overwhelming majority of the active Basketball Clubs and hence appropriate action must be taken against them within the spirit of democracy and fair-play. Thorough investigations may be carried out so that a proper representative Body is elected for governing the sport of Basketball in Goa. The actions of the present committee are detrimental to Goan Basketball and for justice to prevail, the points set out in the Letter may be investigated and appropriate action taken in a speedy manner.
