I am not sure why many Politicians & Senior Goan Bureaucrats are surprised by the UK Travel Advisory, which recently warned its citizens about crime, stray dogs and even sexual assaults in Goa. It is well known that there is no effective law enforcement in Goa and this has only gone from bad to worse in the recent past; not so much the fault of the Police & Law Enforcement agencies but more so because of the stench of corruption & political influence/meddling. Also we know that sexual harassment does exist in Goa not only by some segments of uncultured tourists but also at times by locals; one only has to visit the prominent beaches of Goa to witness the same. It is high time we stop "burying our heads like Ostriches in the sand”, pretending all is fine and instead act to resolve the said issues. To be fair most of the said degradation in the Law, was on account of the Previous Incompetent/Corrupt Government but saying which I hope that the Current New Administration takes immediate steps to address these serious issues.
