There is no separation of the Goan community from the mainstream as far as
adoption of babies is concerned.

Since adoption is done by younger couples who were born, schooled and work in
Canada, they see themselves as Canadian first rather than Goan and act as such.

They would have adopted Indian, or Ethiopian or Gypsy or Pacific Islands babies
if they could, but the agencies who make the arrangements here favor Russian
and Chinese.

I suspect the reason is these authorities comply with Canadian legal
requirements. The fee of 50 thou paid by the parents strictly does not include
any purchase cost of the baby. All of it is legal fees, travel and
administrative costs and agency profits.

Dear Roland

Having read your article in Goan Voice UK "The Adopted Ones" that "Childless
parents in Toronto spend fifty thousand or more to bring adopted children
mainly just-
born babies from China and Russia", were you referring to childless couples
from our community living in Canada?

The reason I am asking this is having lived in the United Kingdom for over 40
years, I am only aware of one couple, the wife being from our community and the
husband English, who have adopted two children of mixed race.
