Kudos to Cecil Pinto and Ulysses for showing us an alternative way to honor
people.
The ostentatious "one-upmanship" practiced in Goa, whether it is weddings,
First Holy Communion, Confirmation, Christening or death anniversaries, is
disconcerting if not downright distressing.  What is the purpose of the
numerous advertisements professing the love of politicians etc. on their
birthdays, or a large ad, commemorating the death of a loved one ?  Or the very
large expenditures on weddings and other religious occasions ?
Instead a small amount of the money spent on such commemorations if diverted to
help the poor would go a long way in helping the less fortunate amongst us and
reap more prayers and good wishes.
