Dear Jose At the outset, let me clarify that I was not the author of the article/ interview. I came across this interview in the DNA and posted it on Goanet as I believed it would be of interest to goans. Although I did provide the weblinks, I erred in not prefacing it with my comments. All-in-all, it feels good whenever something positive and constructive is done for our mother tongue and motherland.
I would tend to agree with you that the Sahitya Akademi only recognised Konkani as an independent and separate language and not as a dialect of Marathi without getting into the script controversy. It is very essential and important for anything to grow and thrive that no fetters should be imposed on it. And that goes for language too. I wish all genuine lovers of Konkani will allow it to grow in whichever script it can blossom. We are all the richer for this. Regards, Marshall *As far as I know, Sahitya Akademi doesn't mention about any official recognition of any script of Konknni in particular. Till today nowhere it is officially written and found that (Devnagri is recognised as the official Konkani script by the Sahitya Akademi.) If at all you have the proof, please let the world know about it.* *Mog asum, Jose Salvador Fernandes*
