The diocese is restoring a large church in Old Goa as a convention center.  The
three million dollar project has been entrusted to Arsenio Associates.  A
structural engineer, Arsenio walked me around the site and showed me the mixer
that ground together
jaggery and lime to replicate the the structure's original wall coating
compound.
I suggested a hint of yeast for a well inhaled ride during those long painful
sermons.

In these days when long-used products crumble like dry jaggery when faced with
modern technology,  the Petromax is still an item, a tad smaller, sleeker and
brighter than its Goan grandfather but the shape and design still not much
changed.
