I would wish to associate myself with the general sentiments expressed (somewhat more robustly than I would) by Gabe Menezes both about the Alemao family and, indeed, about Keith Vaz. Much has been written about both and the comments have gone unchallenged by the subjects. Accordingly, I trust that there must be at least an element of truth in the accounts one reads about.
Gabe is right - Goans in the UK are not disconnected with Goa nor uninterested in what transpires there. However, I do believe that as British citizens, our primary loyalties and interests should remain UK-centred and we ought to be disinterested (as opposed to uninterested) in Goan politics. It is for this reason that I am totally opposed to particularly an MP in the UK Parliament engaging in, and campaigning for a particular party or individual in Goa (or elsewhere for that matter). Vaz has absolutely no right to be involved in Goan politics whilst he retains membership of the British Parliament (let alone retain the chairmanship of a Parliamentary Committee). Francis de Lima
