29 July 2012: Goan Voice UK. As the London Olympics unfolded on Friday with its glittering ceremony celebrating British culture and as individual events commenced, it's no better time to celebrate the Goan sporting spirit.
Goa has produced the finest sportsmen in the best tradition of national and international competition. Avitus D'Cruz has just released on June 1, his pen portrait of Goan sporting greats. Not only have Goans over the years been well represented in sporting events in proportion to their population in India and the diaspora, they have also excelled, though in smaller numbers, in non-traditional areas like cricket, boxing, track and field, tennis and umpiring.
