*PANJIM*: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday assured that the vexed Mayem evacuees property issue will be resolved before Liberation Day and at least 90 per cent of the people would have their grievances addressed Responding to Calling Attention motion moved by the Deputy Speaker Anand Shet, Parrikar told the Assembly that the Government is fully seized of the problems faced by villagers and has already brought in changes by admitting persons residing therein under Mundkar Act. Shet claimed that despite 50 years of liberation, the people of Mayem are still deprived of their proprietary rights due to existence of the title ‘Conde’ and ‘Condade de Mayem’ conferred during the Portugese regime. Parrikar further said residents of Mayem will be conferred full benefits of all social legislations including Tenancy Act, Mundkar Act etc. In addition, the Comunidade of Mayem which had become defunct will be revived and land would be handed over to this comunidade for agriculture purposes. Simultaneously, all recreational facilities, cemetery, cremation ground would be set up in the area. He, however, said should the Government experience any difficulty, an appropriate legislation would be brought to redress the grievances of the people of Mayem.
