Traditionally, saw mills in Goa - known as bonxai's in Konkani were run by Goans. Recently, when I went to buy some timber, I checked out prices in a number of saw mills in Bardez. To my surprise, all but one or two of these were run by Gujaratis.
Take the case of the Electrical goods businesses, all these at one time were run by Goans. Now practically every electric goods shop is run by a Marwari. It would seem that many of the original owners have sold outright but others have chosen to lease out the businesses and live off the lease rents. Pharmacies are going to big companies like Appollo. Will the Goan businessman soon be a museum piece in Goa? -- ** "Tony de Sa" < tonydesa at gmail dot com > **
