Many Congratulations to Denzil Franco from Muddavaddo Saligao who won an international tournament, the Nehru Cup 2012, held in New Delhi. The finals were played yesterday (2 Sep, 2012) and India beat favourites Cameroon who are ranked 109 places above India in FIFA rankings. Denzil put in a strong performance and scored one of the winning penalty goals.
This is the second international tournament Denzil has won for India, the first being the AFC's SAFF Cup 2009 held in Dhaka, where he also scored the final winning penalty goal. He is a regular player with the Indian National Football team and has represented India right from the Under-19 level up to Senior level competing in events in Turkmenistan, Bangladesh, Portugal, Maldives, Malaysia, Qatar, UAE and Sri Lanka. At Club level he currently plays for I-League powerhouse Churchill Brothers, and in the past has played for Salgaocar Sports Club, Sporting Clube de Goa, and Mahindra United. Denzil is a product of the Sesa Football Academy where he was recently felicitated for being India's outstanding player after graduating from the Academy. Denzil did his schooling in Lourdes Convent before moving onto to St Anthony's HS Monte de Guirim where he was trained by Saligao legend, Francis D'Souza. His parents are Avelina & Joe Franco.
